The Bath Priory came home with three awards from a regional tourism celebration last night.

The 27-room hotel and restaurant in Weston Lane took gold in the Small Hotel of the Year section of the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in Torquay.

The business owned by Andrew Brownsword also took gold in the Taste of the South West category, while general manager Sue Williams was presented with an award for outstanding achievement. She also runs the Priory’s sister hotel, Gidleigh Park in Devon.

The Roman Baths complex was highly commended in the Access for All section.

The awards celebrate the most outstanding tourism businesses in the region, recognising businesses and individuals who excel in its biggest industry.

Chair of judges, Alistair Handyside, said: “Tourism will be one of the keys to economic recovery in South West England and this year’s finalists show that there is no shortage of innovation in the region. They, and all the entrants, should be congratulated for their great efforts. Their creativity, across both start-ups and established businesses reinvesting or diversifying has been immense. They have given us a further platform to shout about the diverse quality in the region at a national level, where we expect to do well.”
