Torchwood star John Barrowman heads to Bath to launch new book

Torchwood favourite John Barrowman will be coming to Bath with his sister to launch their latest joint writing venture next week.

The West End star is releasing his second children’s book Bone Quill, which has been written in partnership with his English professor sibling Carole E Barrowman.

It tells the story of twins Matt and Em Calder who can bring their drawings to life and have to time travel back to the Middle Ages to protect the mysterious bone quill.

The Barrowmans will be at Waterstones in Milsom Street at 1pm on Tuesday, to meet fans and sign copies of the book.

Earlier that day they are also due to pop in to Writhlington School, in Radstock, where they will speak to pupils about reading and the artwork which inspired them, because a number of famous paintings appear in the book.

Barrowman is both a star of stage and screen and is probably best-known for his portrayal of the character Captain Jack in the BBC shows Doctor Who and Torchwood.

His sister Carole is a journalist and English professor in Wisconsin.

As a writing team, they collaborated on Barrowman’s autobiography Anything Goes and the follow-up, I Am What I Am.

Bone Quill is their second children’s book, with the first, Hollow Earth, proving popular with both critics and readers.
