Team Bath went into their final two matches of the regular season needing six maximum points to wrap up the title.
However, Loughborough had won their previous five matches and came within three minutes of inflicting a damaging defeat on Team Bath.
The visitors saw Luke Ballinger’s first-half opener cancelled out but were able to open up a 3-1 lead after the break thanks to Ian Parkes and another Ballinger strike.
However, Loughborough went for broke, playing a fly goalkeeper, and stunned their rivals by scoring three times in quick succession to turn the game on its head.
Team Bath could see their title hopes fading but also utilised a fly keeper to great effect as Sion Kitson’s back-post ball deflected into the net before Ballinger completed his hat-– and the win – with just 21 seconds remaining.
A bumper crowd was at the Sports Training Village for Sunday’s encounter against Gloucester, where Team Bath’s coronation never looked in doubt.
In-form Ballinger and Parkes both bagged braces and Rob Yilmaz was also on target as the hosts raced into a 7-0 lead at half-time.
Home player-coach Kitson scored two well-worked goals after the break before Parkes and Ballinger took their tallies to five and eight respectively, with the latter scoring an acrobatic overhead kick right on the buzzer.
