Police are planning to educate motorists in Bath as the new school term gets under way.

The Avon and Somerset force’s Operation Relentless initiative will see extra patrols around school - to deal with inconsiderate parking by parents, and catch motorists who ignore lollipop men and women.

There will also be truancy “sweeps” to look out for children who should be at school.

Officers will also be going into schools, youth clubs and parks, offering crime prevention advice to youngsters on the issues most likely to affect them, such as bullying, anti-social behaviour and personal safety.

The main focus of police activity will be next Tuesday but the force says that over the next three months it will be unveiling a host of activities which aim to promote personal safety for children and young people.

Officers will also be targeting youth-related crime and anti-social behaviour, as well as dealing with prolific young offenders, the force says.

    “rjs,

I live on Richmond Place and I have no problem with parking and the school. Nearly everyone who lives there knows that it is effectively one way during start and end of day and treat it accordingly. It is the odd person that is determined to "go against the flow" that tend to cause problems. Not sure who the "non-school drivers" are that want to get along Richmond Place during these times as apart from residents and school parents I can only think of delivery drivers that would need to use the road, and we always inform anyone delivering of the situation during those hours.”

Notice to editor: 'targeted' has one 't' at the end, not two.”

“St. Stephen's School in Richmond Place (off Richmond Road) should be one area to be targeted before and after school, mornings and afternoons. It is impossible for the ordinary non-school driver to get through during these times.”

“Their planning to do it or are they going to, i thought this sort of case would be right up their street and something that their supposed to do as part of their job ,obviously not, this they only do on special occasions, sound's like their doing us a favour or something ,any chance of a couple of officers coming around and doing my garden for me ,i'm tired.”
