There was a bit of a panic at the Lit Fest on Monday when news came through that Raymond Blanc, one of the world's greatest chefs, had broken his leg and could not make it to the closing night of the Bath Lit festival on Sunday.

However, within hours Valentine Warner, the star of BBC2's What To Eat Now, has stepped in to bring this year's hugely successful festival to a tasty conclusion.

Valentine Warner grew up on a farm in Dorset, learning to fish, shoot and cook from an early age, and then studied art in Bath before heading to London. He had an epiphany at the age of 23 and knew he had to have a career involving food. Several years cooking in famous kitchens followed before the BBC catapulted him out of dark and over-heated basement kitchens and into the culinary limelight.

There have now been two series of What To Eat Now and two spin-off books, and Valentine is firmly established as one of the younger generation of thoughtful cooks with a social conscience following in the footsteps of Raymond and Jamie et al.

While not French, a fact which made Raymond Blanc an obvious candidate for the French-themed final day of the festival, Valentine Warner who will be in conversation with the novelist Kate Mosse, has impeccable foodie credentials and promises to provide a delicious close to this year's festival, at 8pm at The Guildhall, Bath.
