TIM DAVENPORT: Buccs are in good shape for title assault
Team Bath Buccs 1st XI player Tim Davenport looks back on a successful outing for his side...
Three wins from three with only one goal conceded is the form we will need to be in if we want to contest the top spots in the division at the end of the season.
Firebrands are struggling at the foot of the Conference West table but they certainly made us work hard for our 3-0 victory on Sunday. Once we got our first goal we seemed to settle down but we did have to endure a few tricky situations presented to us by the home side.
Thankfully we managed to come through them unscathed and once Sam Hatherley scored our second goal, I knew we would go on to win the match comfortably. Our one criticism at the end of the game was actually that we didn’t win the game by more goals. We certainly had the chances to and against a better team our profligacy might have come back to haunt us.

With only a point to show from their first season back in the National League, Firebrands have a mammoth task on their hands if they are to maintain their position in the West Conference. I hate to see clubs yo-yo up and down out of the National League and it will be especially sad if Brands are condemned to another season at regional level.
It’s nice having a relatively local away game and I always enjoy fixtures that naturally contain a bit of spice such as a derby clash. But Brands is also a nice place to play.
They are what I’d describe as a ‘proper’ hockey club. They have a nice set-up at Failand with a clubhouse and newly-laid pitch and there’s always a sizeable crowd out to support. I wish them all the best for their remaining games and hope it won’t be too long before we meet them again.
