Swimming quintet get GB call to face Germany
Five Bath-based swimmers have been selected to represent Great Britain in this weekend's meeting against Germany at the Wales National Pool in Swansea.
Matthew Clay, Ian Hulme, Michael Jamieson, Chris Walker-Hebborn and Jessica Dickons will be competing at the event on Saturday and Sunday.
They will be joined by double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington, World Champion Liam Tancock and Olympic medallists Jo Jackson and David Davies, providing them with vital race exposure before next month's British Gas Swimming Championships.
The quintet all swim at the British Gas Intensive Training Centre at the University of Bath, specifically set up to provide athletes with a fully integrated world-class training programme at one location.
It is run by head coach David McNulty, who led Jackson to a bronze medal at the Beijing Games in 2008, and includes a number of sports science and sports medicine specialists, including a full-time performance scientist.
German Olympic medallist Britta Steffen, World Champion Paul Beidermann and World silver medallist Benjamin Starke will head up the challenge for the Brits as the two countries battle for pride.
The British Gas Great Britain v Germany Swim Meet will see five points go to race winners, three points to the second-placed swimmer and one point to the third home.
The winning team in the relays will receive seven points and the nation with the most points will be crowned winners of the inaugural event.
