Survival of the fittest is the only way
Well said to your recent letter writer on climate change, Afrel Pounds!
Each and every one of us can only go as far as we can go without being led round in ever decreasing circles, often deliberately by those who seem to take a perverse delight in steering these debates into a party-political logic trap. Personally, I get tired going round in circles.
How else can I move my perspective forward to adapt? How else can I give what I can to ensure our children have a future? Perhaps there really is nothing more I can say, and I don't wish to launch into a lengthy exequy about entropy.
Once we hit our "tipping point", we should be powering down instead of powering up, and that effectively means we will be moving backwards, away from our electricity-dependent technology made from oil-based plastics, and re-learning how to work with our hands and brains.
For some, that is a difficult concept to grapple with, and others have used it as an excuse to blame the Industrial Revolution for everything that went wrong. As a result, the eco-fascists attack anything perceived as "industrial", while the opposite side accuse them of being "anti-progress".
There will probably be only one kind of progress: survival.
Adapting to a life without electricity is the best survival equipment, even if it means restoring Ralph Allen's horse-drawn tramway.
For the idiots who think I have not considered alternatives to the BRT, think again. And the next time they give the order to concrete over some greenery, remember those plants give humans the oxygen needed to breathe.
