OLD SULIANS A blistering start paved the way for Old Sulians' 29-14 victory over Wells 2nds in Somerset 1.

Early pressure from Sulians' impressive back row led to a smart three-quarter move and a try for full-back Allan.

Centre Dicks quickly followed him over the whitewash and also converted both efforts to give Sulians a 14-0 lead after only 15 minutes.

Both sides were committed to playing expansive rugby and the game, expertly officiated by Tony Spreadbury, was a joy to watch.

Another flowing move, including great inter-play between backs and forwards, saw centre French cross the tryline and lock Emberson crashed over to wrap up the bonus point and give Sulians a 24-0 half-time lead.

The second half started at a less frenetic pace but it did not take long for the impressive King to show sleight of hand and a turn of pace for a try in the corner.

Sulians seemed to be cruising at 29-0 up but the score, together with some stern words from their captain, galvanised Wells and they responded with two converted tries of their own.

Old Sulians fielded a 2nd XV for the first time this season, with a spirited 14-man line-up restricting visiting Stothert & Pitt 2nds to three tries in a 27-7 defeat.

Stotherts eventually got home through tries from Tom Everitt, Dave Peacock and Max Hibberd, with Kai Emmett adding two penalties and two conversions. Tom Clarke also kicked a conversion.
