Students unite for Haiti fundraising concert
Five business students from the University of Bath have organised Haiti Happening, a fundraising concert taking place on Thursday, March 18 at the university campus' Elements Club.
Among the bands performing is Torbay-based The Iconyx, Bath Spa's Ocean Thief and Nicole Fermie also from Bath.
Nicole Fermie (pictured left), is a huge-sounding, guitar-wielding, rhythm-heavy, girl-fronted power trio.
Influenced by the glory days of Parliament Funkadelic, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, Nicole is joined by drummer Howard Gill and bassist Scott Barter.
The band signed to the uber-cool Top Cat record label and with the help of producer Tim Oliver Nicole released an EP in 2008, and went on to finish the debut album,
Babel in Three
, last year.
Nicole is currently honing a killer live set at some great venues in the UK and abroad, and all the signs point to big things in 2010.
One of the organisers, Anna Georgieva, said: "As a part of our second year studies we have the task to organise an event that contributes the community and raises awareness towards a certain cause of value.
"We have therefore decided to put together a live music event to raise awareness for the recent events that took place in Haiti."
The show starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £3 in advance and £4 on the door.
All the ticket proceeds go to the Concern Worldwide's Earthquake Appeal charity and the bands are performing for free.
