Students to play role in community
Students in Bath are being encouraged to get more involved with community projects in a bid to build relationships between the two universities and city residents.
The Student Community Partnership (SCP), which includes the University of Bath, Bath Spa University, both students' unions and Bath and North East Somerset Council, is offering funding to kick start the initiatives.
Students can apply for up to £300 and the money should be spent on a project which will give something back to the area they live in.
Chairman of the SCP, councillor Will Sandry (Lib Dem, Oldfield), said he believed the scheme would go a long way to bringing the universities and residents together.

Mr Sandry said: "The new community fund will support an interesting range of projects to get students more closely involved in their community, whether it be through painting a children's play area or redecorating a community building. The idea is that students can play their part in improving the communities in which they live."
Emma Weskin, from Bath Spa students' union, backed the idea, saying: "The fund is a great way for students to give something back to the community and for the community to see how willing students are to lend a hand and to make a difference."
Hanna Wade, University of Bath students' union community officer, added: "I am very excited to see the diverse range of projects which this fund will be able to support and it is great that the SCP is able to provide this opportunity for our community."
The deadline for applications is November 30. For more information call Jenny Dean on 01225 383419 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
