Students in Peace Day conference
Students across Bath attended a conference to mark UN International Day of Peace.
The conference, organised by the Bath and District United Nations Association (UNA), was held at Hayesfield School.

At the event, called Co-operation is Better than Conflict, around 70 students watched Czech anti-war cartoon Pozor before listening to a speech by veteran peace campaigner Bruce Kent.
They then discussed their attitudes to war and the issues raised by Mr Kent.

UNA coordinator Andy McKim said: "This was the first time we have organised a sixth form conference in Bath, but we will certainly be trying to make it an annual event following the success of this one.
"We have been greatly encouraged by the positive response we have received from local schools and from the Co-operative Group, which provided financial support.
"The venue at Hayesfield was superb and Bruce Kent was as informative and thought-provoking as ever, but the most pleasant surprise was the quality of the students' participation.
"Bath should be very proud of the quality of its sixth formers."

“Bruce Kent argued that there was really no debate to be had about the title - it is self evident that Co-operation is better than conflict – the puzzle for him was how often and how quickly we degenerate into war before exploring other avenues of conflict resolution.”

“Ah yes, and no doubt Mr Kent gave a completely unbiased account of how to obtain peace in the world.
Let me guess what his thrust was:
1) Israel, the USA and the UK = evil
2) Islamofascists = misunderstood victims of countries in (1) above
It would be good that if such events were held there could be a more balanced approach. The young people deserve it.”
