“I wonder if the Bath Chronicle should get copy of the team sheet? Every name seems to be wrong!
Here's how it should have read.
AFC Durbin United had there first defeat in over a year, in what could only be described as a close match. There were a few chances either way in the first half, which was more in favour of Durbin, but nothing would come of them until Archer struck a thunderous moving ball from 25yrds leaving the Stotherts goal keeper John Avant without a chance as it hit the top corner.
Stotherts replied with more urgency and were awarded with a free kick 20 odd yards out, which Dean Paget thumped into what was probably the only gap in the defence bringing the score to 1-1
The second half was much like the first and Durbin seemed to spend a lot of their time attacking, however unable to breach the eager Stotherts defence they conceded a free kick in nearly the same position as the free kick which put Stotherts on the score sheet. Dean Paget looked as if he would attempt another but cleverly chipped the ball to Stotherts centre back Shane Hall who skilfully headed over the challenging keeper to make it 2-1 Stotherts.
A few darting runs by Jack Wyatt kept the Stotherts defence on their toes for the last part of the game but Durbin were unable to get through.
All in all a very entertaining game and an interesting start for newly promoted Stotherts
Result: Stothert and Pitt 2-1 AFC Durbin United”
