Ben Withey and John Parks touched down for Stothert & Pitt as they were deservedly beaten 26-13 at Winscombe in Somerset Premier.

The hosts’ strong scrum gave them the upper hand in the set-piece and although both teams tried to play an expansive and quick game, the first score took 36 minutes to arrive.

Lock Andy Ball reached for the line to touch down and Owen Howells added the conversion to give Winscombe a 7-0 interval lead.

The home side extended their advantage with a flowing try from Tom Nock before Stotherts got on the scoresheet through a Lewis Whyte penalty.

Winscombe hit back strongly and their offloading game resulted in a five-metre scrum, from which the pack pushed over for Will Thomas to score and Howells to convert.

Dogged Stotherts replied with a well-taken try from Withey but, crucially, Winscombe scored next when their backs and forwards linked well for Chris Aske to touch down.

Howells again converted but Stotherts had the final word when Parks scored in the last play of the game.this proved to be the last play of the game.
