Stothert & Pitt cannot halt table-topping Chew Valley
Chew Valley reinforced their Somerset Premier promotion credentials with a 25-0 victory over Stothert & Pitt on a gluepot of a pitch.
Although Stotherts competed well throughout, Chew’s heavier and well-drilled forwards had the important edge and took an early lead when Darren Jeffries touched down from a driving maul which Tom Bryan converted.
Stotherts replied strongly but could find no way through their hosts’ determined defence and, after a couple of missed penalties from the visitors, the league leaders scored again through Bryan following a well-worked blindside move.
Bryan kicked two penalties within five minutes of the restart to take his match tally to 15 but defences then held sway in the difficult conditions until Will Bryan’s fine late solo try rounded off the scoring.
