Stepping up to the plate
BATH: The next generation of Jamie Olivers and Gordon Ramsays will be battling it out to be named the best young chef in Bath.
The second annual cookery competition organised by Bathavon Rotary Club will take place at the City of Bath College on Saturday, November 22 between 9am and noon.
Eight students from the City of Bath College, Oldfield School and Ralph Allen School will be cooking a three-course meal on a budget of £14.
All the food must be healthy and well-balanced, using organic and locally-produced ingredients wherever possible.
The winner of the Bath stage of the Rotary Young Chef contest will go through to the next stage of the national competition and be in with a chance of a free trip to Italy.
Rotary club spokesman Thomas Blaettler said: "Young people today don't have as much home economics classes as in past years and this gives them a chance to practise their cooking skills in a competitive environment.
"Because they are going to be cooking a healthy meal, it benefits their personal development."
