People are being dared to stand up for Comic Relief as Bath’s Komedia venue stages a night of comedy to raise money for Red Nose Day.

The Stand Up For Comic Relief… If You Dare show takes place on Monday March 11, and is one of several events taking place around the country in association with BBC local radio. Willing participants who have never performed comedy will take to the stage in an attempt to make an audience laugh.

The volunteer comics will be given a ‘boot camp’ with Komedia Bath’s regular compere Mark Olver before the event, helping them to prepare a two- to three-minute minute routine for the evening. The best routines will also be featured on local radio.

At least £8 from each ticket sale will go directly to Red Nose Day, as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Staff at Komedia have also agreed to work at the show for free to help raise money.

Venue manager Lark Porter said: “A lot of people always assume that stand-up is easy, but I’d be absolutely terrified to get up in front of an audience, so I have tremendous respect for all of those who will be raising money.”

She added: “Comic Relief is a fantastic charity and here at Komedia we are delighted to be able to do our bit for Red Nose Day. When I asked our staff about giving up their time for the show, everybody was really keen to get involved, and one or two have even asked about getting up on stage.”

Tickets are on sale now, and can be bought from www.komedia.co.uk/bath, in person at the box office, or via the telephone booking line on 0845 293 8480.
