St Stephen's School win BANES Years 3&4 football tournament at Monkton Combe in Bath, also featuring Bathampton Primary, St John's RC and St Mary's RC

More than 40 children from five schools took part in the Bath & North East Somerset Years 3&4 football competition at Monkton Combe on Saturday.

St Stephen’s A, one of two teams entered by the school, took the title without conceding a goal – although their keeper was far from underemployed in some exciting games.

The competition was played on a round-robin basis but Bathampton Primary and St John’s RC were locked on points, goals scored and goals conceded at the end so they shared second spot.

St Mary’s RC also took part in what has been dubbed ‘the friendly competition’, with the teams making light of the muddy conditions to produce wonderful passing movements and hard but fair tackles.
