Sporting dreams ... and a dream of peace
After the glory of London, the Olympic Games, now where?
As a devotee of sport, a man who appreciates greatness on the sporting battlefield wherever it occurs, I must stand up and say that there are six things that I would dearly love to see during my lifetime.
-

So I announce to the rest of the world in reverse order my dream list.
In sixth, I would like to see a female jockey proudly ride the winner of the Grand National. In fifth, I wish to see a woman racing driver race to a glorious victory in the Monaco Grand Prix.

In fourth place, I desperately want an Englishman to hit his way to a Wimbledon victory, to finally claim it as his. Taking up third spot, I give the award to the first athlete to run the marathon in two hours dead, or less.
Yes, in second place I pray for the England football team to be guided to another World Cup win, 1966 reborn.
But towering above all else in a runaway first place, is my wish to see the holy city of Jerusalem stage the Olympic Games, at some point in my lifetime. If not then within the next 100 years.
To observe this important ancient city to travel the same way as Rome, or Athens. Only for this to happen peace must transcend to that troubled region of the world. How long will the leaders and peoples of all the nations of the Middle East keep the rest of us waiting? How much longer will the nightmare of the Middle East change into a sparkling dream that suddenly comes alive? I suppose until then I will have to continue dreaming the impossible.
