Cricket fans in Bath have been dealt a blow after the continuing wet weather forced Somerset to shelve plans to stage this month's CB40 clash with Durham in the city.

The Cidermen had been due to make their annual visit to the Recreation Ground on Sunday, July 22 but groundstaff have been forced to admit defeat with the fixture just over a fortnight away.

Somerset stressed, however, that they remain committed to an association with Bath that stretches back to its first cricket festival in 1897.

The match has been switched to the County Ground, Taunton, and will be played on the same date.

Somerset chief executive Guy Lavender said: "This really is a tremendous disappointment for all of the spectators who come and support Somerset when we play in Bath, for the Bath and Wiltshire Area Committee and Bath Rugby, who have all worked hard to put this in place.

"The club is very disappointed because we are keen to play cricket outside of the County Ground and hope the conditions are more favourable in future seasons for games to go ahead at Bath."

Anybody who has purchased tickets for the match can either transfer them or obtain a refund. For more details, visit www.somersetcountycc.co.uk or call 0845 337 1875.
