Drivers faced tricky conditions in Bath today after snow fell on the city.

There were reports of problems all over the city with

cars getting stuck on Ralph Allen Drive.

There were accidents at Ralph Allen Drive and Pennyquick, while conditions were also treacherous at Winsley, Weston, Bathwick Hill and North Road.

On Twitter @eat5star said: "No cars getting up and down. Stay clear!"

Neil Coxon said on Twitter: "Cars sliding all over the place on Winsley Hill. We have abandoned and walked home."

And Brian Kelly warned: "Do not try to go up or down to Bath Uni on Bathwick Hill. Road seems blocked by lorries which are stuck."

Police reported an accident on A3062 Ralph Allen Drive near Priory Close.

GirlaboutBath said on Twitter earlier: "Just went down the hill from my Mum's house sideways in the car."

Bath and North East Somerset Council has put its new army of volunteer snow wardens on stand-by and topped up its own supply of road salt yesterday.

Today's snow is expected to turn to rain later and disruption is expected to be short-lived

“I was fine on my bike, with studded winter tyres. Ah, but then, I'm not a motorist or a pedestrian so I don't exist in the UK's (and the media's) rather solipsistic view of transport.”

“I have a brilliant idea on how we can avoid panic and prepare for future snowy weather, let's give this time of year a name that will remind us that cold and snowy weather is a high possibility.
I suggest we call this period, "Winter", who's in?”

“All any sensible pedestrian needs is an old pair of socks over their shoes to give them polar bear feet (or sensible shoes in the first instance which many don't). Motorists, especially of the two-wheeled variety, have a little more to deal with as it will be they who are blamed should a pedestrian slip under their car! Anyone taking bets on rubbish collections tomorrow? Especially in cul-de-sacs on high ground?”

“How many pedestrians in Bath have used other methods of transport to get there?”

“Thanks to all the Westmoreland Snowpatrollers who were available to come out earlier this evening and do their bit. We managed to cover Highland Terr; Brook Rd. pavements, corner of Caledonian Rd. into Brook Rd; both road and pavements, Brook Rd. Bridge pavement and slopes down into Triangle North and West Ave. We had not intended to do West Ave but realised that it was in need of it and actually gritted in front of vehicles to try to help them get up the steep slope and round the bend into Cynthia Rd. as they were skidding about. Ringwood Rd. into Millmead Rd. was covered by residents there as was Ivy Grove into Ivy Ave. A thoroughly exhilarating and fun time with a great community feel . Thanks to all the appreciative drivers that we met. We will be back out tomorrow if needed!”

“Just want to say a big thanks to all the Westmoreland Snowpatrollers who were available to come out to do their bit this afternoon. We managed to cover Highland Terr., Brook Rd. pavements, corner of Caledonian into Brook Rd. plus Brook Rd Bridge pavement and road and then into West Ave the top of which is so steep and on a bend that I have asked if it can be included in grit runs as cars were really sliding about there. Ringwell Rd into Millmead Rd was done as was Ivy Grove. I know our gang found it very exhilarating and fun and it certainly had a community feel to it. Thanks to all the appreciative drivers. We will be back out tomorrow if necessary!”

“How about "Snow makes Bath streets difficult for pedestrians" rather than focusing on the minority in their cars?”
