Eagle-eyed Bath movie fans will this week be able to catch a glimpse of the cinema they are sitting in on the big screen.

The Little Theatre cinema in St Michael's Place has been given a supporting role in the new big screen adaptation of the Roald Dahl children's classic Fantastic Mr Fox.

Director Wes Anderson spotted the building during a trip to the city with his girlfriend and decided the look of Bath was perfect for the film.

The model town which features in the movie has been based on photographs taken of Bath during that visit and includes Georgian townhouses as well as the independent cinema.

Mr Anderson said the city was the perfect location.

He said: "The town, for example, where part of the movie is set, is Bath.

"My girlfriend and I were in Bath and we were saying 'you know this square here would be great. This is a good space for the showdown and the manhole here is great'.

"And, of course, you have to make it all miniature before you can put it in the film."

Staff at the Little spotted Mr Anderson earlier in the year taking photographs but had no idea it would actually appear in the film until they were sent publicity photographs before its release.

Manager Martin Jennings-Wright said it had been exciting for everyone involved to see the building transported to just outside Farmer Boggis's farm.

He joked: "I suppose it does one good to have a change of scene."

The Little is hosting previews of the film today at 3.45pm and 8.30pm, followed by regular performances from tomorrow.

Tickets can be booked on 08717 042061.
