Silly Songs of Shakespeare: RondoTheatre, Bath
Silly Songs of Shakespeare
New Old Friends
Rondo Theatre, Larkhall, Bath
Don't be put off by the title. These aren't silly songs, well, just a little bit, but they're also very clever, witty and quick-fire. You'll be hard pushed to catch all the jokes and puns at one hearing.

Feargus and the three Sonnettes (wordplay already) can sing, play various musical instruments, and act their way through "synopsongs" covering many of Shakespeares plays.
Some knowledge of the plays is desirable and you'll soon be waiting for a song about your favourite, or even be offered the opportunity to "Sponsor a Danish prince for just £2 per week." You'll be pleased to know that Desdemona's father, "Isn't a racist, but he reads the Daily Mail." At one point the audience are enthusiastically divided into Montagues and Capulets for the Romeo rap.
The set is simple – there really isn't one, but the cast take solos, perform acappella and generally ham it up to great effect.
Unfortunately it was only at the Rondo for one night – the show now goes on tour so catch the dates on their website www.newoldfriends.co.uk
It's not very often that you'll go to a performance finishing with a standing ovation from the audience singing, "We promise, When it's time to go, We're gonna tell our friends, to see the show."
We did and you should.
