A second wrestling bout is to be held at Bath's central library.

Council chiefs courted controversy in August when they organised a wrestling event at the Podium library to mark the National Year of Reading.

A former librarian accused Bath and North East Somerset Council of "dumbing down" but the authority argued the event had introduced a new set of people to the facility.

That event was the first wrestling bout to be held in a library anywhere in the country - and possibly the world.

Now event coordinators Ultimate Challenge Wrestling (UCW) are to lay on a charity event at the library at the end of this month.

It will take place at 7.30pm on Saturday, November 29, and all proceeds will be donated to the Dorothy House Hospice.

Tickets are available now, and the library will be transformedwith a temporary arena and seating. The match will feature full scale wrestling bouts from UCW regulars The Gangster and Checkmate as well as Hubert, Shabazz, T.K.and 'Gentleman' Gilligan Gordon.

Promoter and wrestler Gareth Humphreys – who appears as The Gangster, and who was involved in the August event - said: "The event went very well last time. "We had a lot of families in the audience because it is family entertainment really. "We are trying to encourage people to go into libraries and these events help that. "

Council cabinet member for libraries Cllr David Hawkins (Con, Lansdown) said: "Wrestling in the library is a fun and entertaining evening which helps to publicise libraries to our community and on this occasion raise money for a respected local charity."

Tickets are available from Ultimate Championship Wrestling on 01225 765041.

They cost £6 per person; £17 for a family of three; £22 for a family of four; or £25 for a family of five.
