Joe Long was rewarded for an exceptional year with the Masters Trophy and four of the junior trophies on offer. He was one of only two juniors from the county to be invited to a English Golf Union South West Region under-16s training session at Saunton Golf Club last weekend.

A new competition was formed last year, based on the FedEx Cup, in memory of Lansdown stalwart Dave Maddison and the winner of the inaugural event was Lee Tucker.

The first individual event of the new playing year was the popular four-club challenge. The winner of both Division 1 and overall was Richard Crowley with 39 points. Second place went to Malcolm Brown with 37, a point ahead of Mark Cooper.

Division 2 was won by John Hodges with 38, some three ahead of Jason Witt and Peter Brown, who could only be separated on countback.

Grant Whitehead won a tight Division 3 contest with 37. The placings had to be decided on countback, with Dave Bliss pipping junior Charlie Taylor Madge after both scored 36.

The ladies section was won by Leach (34), with Francis Pope second.

Suzanne Wheeler, Sheila Burridge and Di Barwell formed the winning team when the ladies section held a nine-hole bowmaker. They scored 32 points to push McFarlane, Francis Pope and Di Garry into second place on countback.

Lansdown ladies made a flying start in the Mail on Sunday competition as they beat The Kendleshire 5-0 in the first round.

A nine-hole event for past captains was won by Derek Godwin with 21 points. He was a one shot ahead of Eric Morgan and Rob Law, who were separated on countback.
