Scorer Slade makes point
BUCCS LADIES Joanna Slade's second-half strike earned Buccs Ladies their first Slazenger England Hockey League Women's Conference West point of 2010 as they drew 1-1 with Exe.
Buccs had an early let off when third-placed Exe had a goal from a short corner disallowed.
After some good midfield play, Ella Stones attacked the Exe circle and played the ball back for player of the match Heidi Baber to hit the post and force a save from the rebound.
Buccs took control of the second half but, despite their dominance, it was Exe who grabbed the lead after veteran Linda Webb slotted in from close range.
But Buccs ramped up the pressure and won a string of short corners. After a venomous strike from Zoe Shipperley, Slade netted the rebound.
A tense 15 minutes followed, with both sides pushing hard for the win.
Buccs 2nds triumphed 2-0 against their counterparts from Bournemouth.
A great team effort created the opportunity for Max Mills to score the opener and youngster Catherine Bolland added the second.
Unbeaten Buccs 5ths wrapped up promotion from Wessex 2 thanks to a 6-3 victory over City of Bath 3rds.
Zoe Wood, Alice Thorpe and Alice Higdon bagged two apiece for the winners, who led 2-0 at the interval.
A determined midfield effort from Sophie Arundle, Lisa Powell and Beth Anderson helped Buccs seal the points they needed.
