A specialist school for children with dyslexia has been commended for its international links.

Calder House School in Colerne has been awarded an intermediate certificate by the British Council to congratulate it on its good practice forging relations with schools in other countries.

Headteacher Andrew Day said: "We are overjoyed to have received the International School Intermediate Level Award.

"Our teachers and the children have all been working very hard forging links with our partner schools in Kenya and India. We see this as vitally important in helping children gain an appreciation of other cultures."

The school has also been given a gold certificate from the British Land UK Chess Challenge, marking its long-term commitment to using the game to build pupils' self-confidence.

Mr Day added: "The award highlights the diversity of activities we offer at Calder House School and that dyslexia should not be used as an excuse for children not achieving their goals."
