Children in Keynsham got to grips with jacks and jive as part of a '50s week.

Chandag Junior School is celebrating its 50th anniversary and past pupils, teachers and governors have visited classes to talk to children about what life was like in the 1950s.

PE lessons took on the theme of a '50s sports day and included three-legged and egg and spoon races, while children also played with jacks and marbles.

Staff and children learned rock and roll dance techniques while pupils also took a mock 11-plus exam, designed an anniversary emblem for the school and attempted to identify their teachers from baby pictures.

A 2009 time capsule has been buried – including a school sweatshirt, behaviour policy documents, samples of children's work and photos.

There was a '50s dress day and food from the decade served in the canteen.
