School aims to improve
An action plan to lift a failing Bath primary school out of special measures is being considered by Ofsted.
Inspectors have said leadership and academic standards at Moorlands Junior School are unacceptable and have ordered the local authority to put together proposals for improvement.
The Chantry Mead school's joint headteachers, Susan Warby and Steve Bailey, both resigned before the Ofsted report was published.
Proposals for new leadership are included in the plan, which should be made public early next week.
Helen Self, who has two children who have been through Moorlands and one who is still there, said: "It's fair to say the school community is extremely supportive of the teaching staff and we're looking forward to the fresh energy of new leadership.
"The Ofsted report had a lot of praise for the caring atmosphere of the school and the children's behaviour and attitudes. I'm confident that with the change in leadership, this school will reach its full potential."
Catherine Donkor, whose son is a former pupil, said she was shocked to hear the news."My son left at the end of last year after a wonderful four years during which he was taught by very caring and totally committed staff," she said.
However, another parent, who did not want to be named because his child is still at the school, said: "We feel disappointed in the school – in particular the leadership – and seek urgent answers as to how things will be turned round quickly.
The school has held meetings with parents to discuss the report.
