"This is Bath's first plaza and Bath has such a cosmopolitan feel.

"It's also next to the train station, which makes it a great place for people to see the brand."

Jika Jika at The Vaults serves the cafe's popular breakfast burrito, as well as pastries, salads and cakes, and a selection of hot and cold drinks.

The cafe also has an alcohol licence.

Bath hooker Lee said the main aim of the brand was to get people to appreciate coffee by developing their own blends and serving the different coffees in traditional ways.

He said: "There are big names on the high street that have created a coffee culture but it's all froth. What we are trying to do is get people to learn to get back to old school teas and coffees.

"We don't burn the milk and there's no froth. We've gone back to how it should be done serving, for example, a latte in a small glass."

Since retiring from international rugby last summer the pair say they have plans to expand the Jika Jika name beyond Bath. Matt said: "We hope this place takes off and then hopefully we can expand. The idea would be to open the next place outside of Bath as a satellite in the next few years."

Jika Jika is the latest name to open at The Vaults. Nandos is expected to open next month and Prezzo in the spring.
