Rugby ref Tony Spreadbury lays down law for supporters

Bath Rugby Supporters’ Club members were treated to a virtuoso review of the new IRB Law amendments by former international referee Tony Spreadbury last week.

The RFU’s professional referee development manager, an honorary member of BRSC, also examined the expanded role of the Television Match Official this season.

“He convinced the audience that no matter how many camera angles are available, it is still not always possible to see clearly what has happened to the ball,” said a BRSC spokesman.

“As ever, Spreaders’ enthusiastic presentation of some quite technical points ensured that everyone present now enjoys a much-improved understanding of what referees are now attempting to do in officiating the ‘game designed for hooligans, played by gentlemen’.”
