Rowing: Thornley edges out Olympic golden girl Glover at winter trials
Vicky Thornley produced one of her best sculling performances to date at the GB Rowing Team’s second winter assessment trials at Boston on Sunday.
The former Minerva Bath rower beat current club member and Olympic gold medallist Helen Glover to finish second behind Beth Rodford in the women’s single scull race.

Rodford, of Gloucester RC, came first in 18mins 44.05secs, with Thornley clocking 18:55.09 and third-placed Glover 18:55.15.
University of Bath graduate Adam Freeman-Pask was the runner-up in the lightweight men’s single scull race in a time of 17mins 49.13secs. Leander’s Richard Chambers won it in 17:48.14.
