BOWLS Timsbury Short Mat Bowls Club officials were delighted with the response when they held an open day at the Conygre Hall court last weekend.

The club, which has been in existence since 1996, has 24 members at present but is keen to expand and welcomed a number of prospective new converts.

Secretary Terry Walker said: "When we arrived just before 11am there were a number of people waiting to take part and we have had a steady flow of newcomers waiting to try the game out.

"We are a friendly bunch and would make new members very welcome."

The club, captained by Jack Todd, play in the Mendip League from October to March but have regular club sessions throughout the week.

These are from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Mondays, 7.30pm to 9.30pm on Tuesdays, 2pm to 4pm on Wednesdays and 7.30pm to 9.30pm on Thursdays.
