Carriageway resurfacing work by Bath & North East Somerset Council will take place on the A368 at Bishop Sutton from Monday 8th October 2012 for up to 10 days.

These are important works to improve the standard of the road surface and prevent potholes and more costly maintenance repairs in the future. They are part of the Council's £3.95 million road surface improvement programme in 2012/13.

The section of the A368 road which will be resurfaced (The Street and Wick Road), is approximately the length of the 30mph built-up area between Bonhill Road (including the junction) and Sutton Wick. The road will be closed between 7am and 7pm on weekdays only. Businesses will be open as usual and drivers will be able to ask for advice and assistance from the traffic management team at the site.

We recognise the importance of this stretch of road to the local network and will be working hard with our contractors to carry out the works as quickly as possible. Information about the closure will be distributed to local businesses, residents, and local councillors. Signage will be put up a few weeks before the works commence. Advertised dates are subject to adverse weather conditions or other unforeseeable circumstances.

There will be an impact on public transport and school buses – information will be posted at bus stops and provided to parents about alternative temporary arrangements.

Work by North Somerset Council

Prior to the Carriageway Resurfacing works at Bishop Sutton, North Somerset Council will be undertaking similar resurfacing works through Blagdon – which again will take up to 2 weeks to complete.

Advance signs will be in place both at Chelwood Bridge and at Churchill cross roads advertising the road closures on the A368 at Blagdon and at Bishop Sutton. The same signed diversion suitable for all vehicles, including Heavy Goods Vehicles, will be in place for the duration of both sets of road works mentioned above. With the agreement of Bristol Council, the route will be signed from Chelwood Bridge, via Pensford, Whitchurch, through Hartcliffe to the A38, past Lulsgate to Churchill cross-roads and vice versa.
