Reserves reach summit
TROWBRIDGE LEAGUE Castle Combe were unable to prevent Melksham Town Reserves from taking over at the summit of the Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories Trowbridge League Division 1 table following a 1-0 defeat at the Conigre.
Lee Fielding's first-half goal proved decisive in a game that Combe did not deserve to lose and saw Melksham leapfrog inactive leaders Trowbridge Wanderers.
After a seven-week lay-off, Semington Magpies returned to action by claiming the result of the day – a 2-1 win at title hopefuls Freshford United.
Magpies took the lead when Kelvin Lockwood scored from the spot after Dan Rimmer had been brought down. Chris Arnold doubled their lead with his first senior goal before Andy Donald replied with a penalty.
Holt edged closer to the drop in Division 2 after a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves. Goals from Mark Slade and Jason Cole put Wanderers 2-0 up before two Ashley Styles headers brought Holt level.
Cole's second, in the last minute, sealed victory for Wanderers in the battle of two struggling sides.
Bradford United Reserves' five-match winning run in Division 3 came to an end with an 8-6 defeat to Melksham Town A.
Back in action for the first time since December 10, Bradford found themselves 3-0 down after ten minutes and 7-1 behind at the break. Leigh Rogers claimed a first-half hat-trick for Melksham, with Will Stead, Dan Moore and Ashley Caws sharing the other goals and Ben Lee replying.
Max Bougeard's treble, a Rob James effort and Tom Wiltshire's own goal hauled Bradford back into contention, only for Stead's second to settle a thrilling affair in Melksham's favour.
Winless Polenez Westbury claimed their best result of the season in a 3-1 home defeat to Westwood Social Club.
A stunning header from Dan Fricker put Westwood ahead, Nick Gleeson added the second and Tom Downes made it 3-0 from the penalty spot.
But another heavy loss for Polenez did not materialise as Mirek Uszpelkat pulled one back before Westwood were reduced to nine men after both Ben Cowdrey and Nick Gleeson saw red.
