Record-breaking Rob Pears is toast of Bath Cycling Club
Rob Pears’ successful year was celebrated when Bath Cycling Club staged its dinner and prize-giving.
Pears enjoyed a record-breaking 2012, setting new bests at national age-group and club level, and lifted the prestigious Tempest Trophy for his feats over ten, 25 and 30 miles.

He also won the Traders Cup, Vets Traders Cup, Championship and Roye Cup – all over 25 miles – the Ten-mile Cup and Best Six Tens competition.
The evening’s special guest was endurance cyclist and world 24-hour record holder Ben Rockett.

He also handed three awards to Aileen Brown, who won the points competition and was the ladies’ 25-mile champion and best female all-rounder.
Nigel Vuagniaux was the winner of the two-up time trial, came second in the points competition and third in the hill climb.
Derek Pierce was the winner of the 12-hour competition, while David Summers was crowned 50-mile champion and came second in the hill climb. Alec Rumball won the road race and points competitions, while Rob McMillan was the club-run champion.
Andy Stewart was awarded the Meritorious Service Award for his sterling work in organising the youth section and his involvement with new cycle track at Odd Down.
