Students from St Gregory's Catholic College will be putting on a dance show in Bath to raise awareness of organ donation.

Following the success of the British Transplant Games in Bath last year, head of arts Andrew Jackson came up with the idea for an awareness project.

Year 10 pupils have been working together to create dance, drama and music pieces based around the subject of organ donation and have met former Monkton Combe resident and organ transplant recipient Di Franks.

The pieces have been put together to form an hour- long performance called A Matter of Life and Death and Life, which will be held at the Forum on Friday, July 15, at 7pm.

Mr Jackson said: "Our Year 10 musicians have composed original scores inspired by ideas surrounding blood and organ donation."

The St Gregory's performance is free, and will include information stands from NHS Blood and Transplant.

“Di Franks is indeed a donor, with a fascinating story that she came to St Gregory's to share. It's wonderful to have people with real life stories who can help the students consider the subject ethically and creatively. They've also had workshops with NHS Blood & Transplant to talk them through the facts about donation. We are so grateful to these people for their time and expertise.

The show next Friday is free to the public and they will experience young people's work - dance, music, drama and visual art - all in response to the issues surrounding blood and organ donation.

“I am going to the evening at the Forum. Looking forward to it. It is so great that the school is educating the children about this important subject. My Aunt received a liver transplant a few years ago. Without it she would have died. The donors family must be so proud of their daughter who's organ saved my aunt. Everyone should sign the donor register. I think you will find Di Franks is a donor having given a kidney to a stranger. She is not a recipient.”
