Meanwhile, in the Seniors’ league competition, Reg Morris kept his faint chance of taking the Division 1 title alive by ending Sue Norris’s seven-match unbeaten run.
It was nip and tuck until Morris won two holes in a row on the back nine. His lead was immediately halved but he won the 18th to confirm victory.
Bob McGregor moved up the table with a competent win over Colin Lee, edging ahead early on the second nine before winning two in a row to seal the deal.
Malcolm French recovered from losing the opening two holes to achieve his best league win of the season, winning seven of the next nine holes to make a decisive break against Mike Fear.
Bernard Roots clinched promotion from Division 2, despite being beaten by Dennis Crombie in a fluctuating match. Roots won the first three holes, then lost five before regaining the lead on the back nine, only for Crombie to respond again.
John Sercombe is also going up to Division 1, despite losing to a rejuvenated Tony Damon who won his second successive match in fine style.
Tiger Lewis was the other player battling for promotion but his hopes ended with a last-gasp defeat to Roger Randall, who wrapped up the Division 2 title as a result.
The champion was one down at the turn but won four of the next six holes and, after losing the next two, finished off his rival with victory on the last hole.
