Promise is kept as His Dark Materials gets another run
An amateur theatre company in the city, which was the first in the country to stage part one and two of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, will be repeating the challenge this week.
Members of Next Stage started performing the first part of the play on Tuesday, exactly five years since it was first put on by the company.
But this time younger members of the group will be acting in the show as two casts with around 25 people in each have been selected to take on the various roles, with some playing multiple characters.
The first show will run at the Mission Theatre, in Corn Street, until Saturday and then from Tuesday, July 10 to July 14, the second play will take to the stage. Both include a 2.30pm matinee on the Saturday.

The plays are rarely performed because of the large casts, and to do them justice the props have to be good. But five years ago artistic director Ann Garner spent a lot of money on the props and it was then she promised to make it worth the cash by staging a production every five years.
The plays come from Pullman's best-selling trilogy of Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.
The plays revolve around Lyra and Will, two young teenagers from different worlds.
The pair join forces and share adventures beyond their wildest imaginings as Lyra strives to find her best friend Roger, and Will searches for his lost father.
Part one centres around Lyra's adventures and in part two Will's story is revealed.
The cast in part two comprises: Ben Armstrong, Theo Part, Tommy Deedigan, Ollie Gardner, James Head, Louis Judge-Hodkinson, James Langley, Ollie Pitts, Philip Davies, Rosie Aitchison, Hannah Cheek, Lily Clemence, Becca Coates, Amberley Couchman, Hannah Davenport, Malika Foster, Poppy Harrison, Fliss Jones, Ella Macgregor-Bellaart, Hannah Matthews, Ellie Sims-Hilditch and Anna Wolf. Tickets for the shows are £10/£8 or £18/£14 if you book for both shows.
