Pigs on parade - for last time
They’ve been enjoyed by visitors and tourists alike for the last six months.
But now Bath’s little piggies are off to market.
-

And this weekend was a final chance to say goodbye.
A special Farewell to the Pigs event is being held today and tomorrow at Royal Victoria Park to mark the occasion.
All 100 King Bladud’s pigs were on the lawn of the Crescent for fans to take photographs and enjoy a last look at the sculptures.
During the day visitors could also enjoy hot bacon rolls and the chance to buy souvenir pig statues.
Seven-year-old Ruby Sellers said: “My favourite is Heidi the Hippie because she is so colourful and pretty.”
Meanwhile the Bath Rugby Pig was popular with children and parents alike.
Matt Jacob, 10, said: “I like the rugby pig because I’m a Bath fan. I’ve asked my mum to bid for him.”
At the end of the month the pigs will be auctioned off to raise money for the Two Tunnels project to build a new cyclepath to the south of the city.
Project manager Justin Braithwaite said: “The project has been a huge success and a lot of people will be very sorry to see the pigs go.
“They have brightened up the streets of Bath for months. We are expecting hundreds to come and look at them today.
“This isn’t the end of the journey though. We still have the auction and the chance to own your own pig.”
The auction will be held at the Assembly Rooms on Friday October 31.

“i didnt manage to get to see the pig parade, but i have seen some fantastic pictures that have been added to my facebook group (pigging around Bath!!) which i set up for a few friends to enjoy and now i have 910 members and over 500 pictures, its been such a fab project and i for one have really enjoyed the pigs, most of my members have also enjoyed them, how-ever i have had some poor feedback about the pig's parade, aparently it was to crowded the pen should have been made bigger & the pigs spread out more, also people being refused entry after 430 when all adverts/posters state 10am till 5pm, its a shame not everyone had the chance to enjoy the pigs for the last time!
i cant wait to see how the auction goes on the 31st oct, shame its over £30 entry fee sligthly out of my price range,
lets hope some of the pigs manage to get back onto the streets of bath so we can carry on enjoying them”

“Yeah, putting them all in a circle was a rubbish idea. I'd bid on one for the back garden, but £1250 is £1200 more than I can afford :-(”

“Dear Justin Braithwaite, on behalf of a number of people that I've just left at the cafe Ethos in Walcot Street, may we suggest that some of the pigs are actually raffled off. If you sold tickets at £2.00 each you would only have to sell 600 per pig to reach your minimum bid. Think of the hordes of people who would buy one and so have the chance of owning a pig, and in our case, putting it back on the street for the people. We feel that is where they belong and the good that they have done so far could continue for a long time. I'm sure there would be lots of interest in this idea because so many more of us could afford it! This approach would make even more money for the Two Tunnels Project aswell, so why not give it a go?!”

“I've absolutely loved the Pigs around Bath, they've been a real highlight over the summer, and have been a great draw for the tourists that have visited the city, helping to educate on a history of Bath not commonly told.
However, the exhibition at the weekend was a total and utter shambles, and a really disappointing end to what has been, up until that point, a real success story.
I did not object to paying money to seeing the pigs, which had been free to touch and see beforehand, but the layout and organisation was poorly thought out and very ill conceived.
Having the pigs in the round, not making use of the massive space available, meant that you simply could not get close to have a look.
Very frustrating.
Very disappointing.
Loved the pigs.
Hated the sendoff.”

“Poor exhibition this weekend, and a complete waste of money - sorry, but how stupid were the organisers to put them in such a small circle?
By the way: The whole bohooo about this project is a bit strange, given that these kind of exhibitions are years old in other cities - and funny enough, even the organisers themselves had to admit in their brochure that they just stole the idea from Germany. Funny enough though that this was enough to get a Bath Life Award...”

“Sadly have to agree with Sarah - lack of imagination regarding the layout of them. It was really difficult to see them as people were three-deep and so were all cramped and squashed (pigs included!) in a small space in a really large area! My friend and I went on Saturday and had thought they would be displayed in a crescent shape so that they had the wonderful backdrop of the Royal Crescent and pictures could be taken of all of them if one wanted. Also felt the posters would have been more interesting and memorable if they had shown the pigs in their locations because this is what 'made' them. Posters are rather boring looking which is such a shame because the whole project has been great. It would brilliant if people who have been lucky enough to buy one would put them on the streets again!”

“I've enjoyed the pigs all summer but was really disappointed by today's pig parade. The pigs were all crammed into a small space and swamped by crowds. I found it difficult to see them and my children found it nearly impossible. The whole thing was just badly thought out and a very disappointing end to what had been a great project.”

“The pigs have brightened up the city and really caught the imagination of the people. We need more things like this. I didn't object to paying £2 to see them this afternoon - it was good value for money and all goes to a good cause. People have been able to view them free for the last six months so I think it was good to give something back. I'm going to mss the pigs.”

“Loved the pigs, great idea with monety raised for a good cause. Just one moan, why not raffle a few pigs, so that those of us without a large Bank Account could also have the chance of owning one.”
