Pedal power to light up music festival this spring
The wheels are in motion for a music festival where all the electricity will be provided by pedal power.
The Penny Farthing Festival has been set up by four Bath Spa University students who want to create a green, environmentally-friendly music event.
It will take place at the city's Pavilion on May 5 and although the acts have not yet been confirmed, the organisers are confident it will be a big success.
Duncan Silvey, 23, who is a final year commercial music student, said: "We wanted to show that cycling isn't just a means of transport.
"This is something for the community and we want to really encourage audience participation at a festival."
There will be six to ten static bikes hooked up to a generator, which will provide all the energy needed for the musicians.
A small group of volunteers will be on hand to make sure someone is always cycling, but people in the audience will be invited to give it a go.
Mr Silvey said they could even arrange sponsorship for pedalling for a certain number of hours.
The group, which is completed by Peter Jovetic, Simon Halliday and Barnaby Bowles- Bray, are now appealing for support and funding from individuals and companies.
They are particularly interested in borrowing some penny farthings for the event.
