Centenary celebrations are under way in Peasedown St John as the primary school marks 100 years of providing education for village children.

Pupils have already been hard at work designing a special logo for the school to use during 2013 and some have written to local businesses to raise sponsorship for events.

The events will culminate in a week of activities at the end of June when ex-pupils and staff will be invited to visit the school and share their memories as part of the celebrations.

The school is also planning a parade through the heart of the village.

Joint school head Julia Battersby said the school hoped the whole community would become involved in the major milestone.

Community funding has already kick-started the plans, with £250 sponsorship from the Party in the Park Fund and £500 from Councillor Nathan Hartley (Lib Dem, Peasedown) through his ward councillor initiative fund.

The money will help pay for a series of drama workshops put on by local theatre company Magic Penny Productions and led by parent Petra Schofield.
