Park-and-ride continues to divide
In light of recent correspondence, please find below a copy of the open letter I sent to David Lavington who was unhappy with my comments in the Chronicle about the lack of objections to the park-and-ride plan for Batheaston at that time .
'Thank you for your letter and may I assure you that before the recent article appeared in The Bath Chronicle I had only received two objections to the park-and-ride on Bathampton Meadows. Since that first article appeared in the paper, I received one more objection.
At the overview and scrutiny panel meeting when the park- and-ride plan was discussed, a member of the parish council informed the panel of the overwhelming response against the plan from a survey conducted by the parish council. The figures quoted were questioned by a panel member and the figures were then somewhat reduced.
I informed the panel that I had not received a questionnaire and I understood that a neighbour has also not received one of your questionnaires.

B&NES' planning and transport director Mr Trigwell should worry about the council's credibility throughout the world if they allow Bathampton Meadows (which is an integral part of this beautiful World Heritage Site, visited by thousands of people annually) to have a massive car park dumped on it.
So much for the council's comment on their website that park-and-ride is easy on the environment'!

“Nice one Anil. Just a tad simplistic. Perhaps next time you feel like commenting, you could keep up with the overall picture and the relevant arguments. Try looking at savebathamptonmeadows.org.uk .”

“The answer to all this is fairly simple. If you want to preserve your beautiful city and its environment, then give up your cars. I've managed to visit and work in Bath in the past 25 years without using one. Seeing as most Bath people are welded to their cars, this is unlikely to happen. So bye bye bathampton meadows...”
