Outstanding Ofsted verdict on The Corsham School
A secondary school with the motto 'I can inspire' has been given an outstanding rating by Ofsted inspectors.
An inspection team which visited The Corsham School last month has lavished praise on the way the 1,395-pupil establishment is run.
The report says pupils have "extremely positive attitudes to learning" and that teaching is either good or outstanding.
It says the school - which has specialist status in visual arts, maths and information technology - is driven by the "clear vision and direction" of headteacher Martin Williams.
He said: "I am delighted that the school has received the Ofsted report and categorisation it richly deserves. The report is an accurate testimony to the exceptional efforts and talents of the staff and students.
"The outstanding support offered to the school by the governors and parents is also highlighted."
The school has the best A-level results in photography anywhere in England.
The inspectors say: "The school's motto is 'I can inspire' and it achieves this aspiration very well. The quality of the education provided in both the whole school and the sixth form is outstanding.
"Underpinning the improvements made since the last inspection are outstanding leadership and management, driven by the clear vision and direction of the headteacher. These are focused firmly on raising students' achievement and their personal development and well-being through a creative curriculum, high quality teaching and enabling students to thrive in a caring and supportive environment."
The report praises the "exemplary relationships at all levels" and adds: "Students very much enjoy school, are extremely well-behaved and adopt very healthy lifestyles. They have a strong sense of belonging to the school, which makes them feel immensely safe."
It hails the curriculum as outstanding and says there are excellent activities outside the classroom.
"There is high participation in the wealth of visual art, performance, sport and other subject-related extracurricular activities provided by the school. These make a significant contribution to students' enjoyment and achievement and enhance their personal development and well-being."
The inspection team says that parental support for the school is "overwhelmingly positive" and highlights the sensitivity and good manners of pupils.
