A 17-3 away victory over their Gordano counterparts kept up Oldfield 2nds’ push for the Somerset 2 North honours.

The visitors were keen to avenge their only defeat of the season at the hands of their fellow high fliers and took an early lead when Rich Trott fended off the full-back to score near the posts.

Rob Payne added the extras and then kicked a long-range penalty to make it 10-0.

Oldfield’s best phase of the game saw the backs inter-link superbly to set up Payne for their second try five minutes before half-time.

Gordano dominated the second half but Oldfield’s defence, led by man of the match Billy Withers, did not buckle and restricted them to a solitary penalty.

Oldfield, who lie second in the table, have conceded only six points in their last four matches and visit Chew Valley on Saturday.
