Old Sulians just fail to mark monthly award with victory
High-flying Clevedon 2nds were given a scare by newly-crowned Greensward Sports Consultancy/Bath Chronicle team of the month Old Sulians as they escaped Lansdown with an 18-17 win on Saturday.
Sulians were unveiled as the fourth monthly award-winners of the season thanks to their improved Somerset 1 results through December and January but a fourth victory in five matches just proved beyond them.

Old Sulians line up before Saturday's game
The 18 home players involved could not be faulted for their effort and commitment but in the end the bigger Clevedon forwards were perhaps the difference between the sides.
As in recent weeks, Sulians’ tackling and covering was excellent but their attacking opportunities were limited as Clevedon produced an all-round, workmanlike performance in the muddy conditions.

Clevedon opened their account with a well taken try on the blindside and followed it up with a penalty to take an early 8-0 lead.
Sulians’ stand-in scrum-half and kicker Lyons struck his first penalty of the day to reduce the arrears before fly-half Basey danced his way in from just outside the visitors’ 22 to score a fine individual try.
The visitors responded with pushover tries from their number eight either side of half-time to move ten points ahead.
But Sulians dominated the final quarter, with the mobile back row and full-back Goddard allowing field position for Lyons to add three more penalties
A frantic last five minutes ensued but Clevedon held on for the league points.
Sulians hope to return to winning ways at Wells 2nds on Saturday.
