OX
Canadian college radio chart botherers Ox play The Bell on Monday at 9pm.
The band began with songwriter Mark Browning's project to remake Woody Guthrie's Dust Bowl Ballads. What started as a musical history excercise and sonic experiment quickly transformed into an intimate expression of rambling folk soundscape mixed with indie rock.
Four albums, Dust Bowl Revival (2003), American Lo Fi (2006), Burnout (2009) and last year's tUCo, crystalised Ox's underground cult status. Avoiding the mainstream, and ignoring the industry, Ox lurks on the fringe with a fiercely independent DIY approach with music that should appeal to fans of Bright Eyes, The Flaming Lips, Beck, and creaky reverb drenched folky country stuff.
