Freshford United’s Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories Trowbridge League Division 1 title push stuttered with a 2-2 draw at North Bradley.

Steve Roddy’s sublime volley and Waleed Bakali’s back-post header put Freshford ahead twice but they were pegged back by equalisers from Tom Wade and Bradley player-manager Paul Ranger.

The latter spotted Freshford keeper Craig Guthrie off his line before netting with a 25-yard free-kick home to earn a point for his improving side.

Bottom side Castle Combe were unable to halt table-topping Boomsbury, who ran out 4-2 victors at Trowbridge Cricket Club.

Dave Appleyard fired Boomsbury ahead before Mark Bolton levelled matters direct from a corner. Carl Davies restored the hosts’ lead and, despite an equaliser from Matthew Hooper, they went on to complete a league double over Combe thanks to goals from substitute Scott Askew and Matt Jones.

A 4-1 win for Bradford United Reserves over bottom side The Stiffs kept up the pressure on Division 3 leaders Westwood News, who were in cup action.

Goals from Tom May and Scott Mitchell gave Bradford a 2-0 lead at the break and Aiden Lane’s strike deflected in off the unfortunate Kevin Ball for their third.

Dan Woolford added to their tally before Chris Giles scored Stiffs’ consolation.

Westwood bowed out of the Knockout Cup (sponsored by Chantry Digital Ltd) with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Division 1 opponents Seend United. Goals from Rob Manning and Nathan Walker did the damage.
