Musical weekend to raise £30k for local good causes
Singers and musicians from across the country will descend on the city for a charity weekend in May.
The line-up for the Bath Sing for Life has been announced and includes some of Britain's leading choirs and performers.
The weekend is organised by choir leader Grenville Jones and aims to raise £30,000 for local charities Dorothy House, the Forever Friends Appeal and his own singing charity Golden-Oldies.
The weekend will start on Friday, May 1 with four concerts across the city featuring local choirs.
St Mary's Church in Bathwick will welcome the Bath Minerva Choir and the Paragon Singers, while St Stephen's Church in Lansdown will see the Bath Cantata Group and the Jane Lilley Singers perform.
St Luke's Church in Wellsway will welcome the Bath Community Gospel Choir and the Royal United Hospital Community Choir while St John's Catholic Church on South Parade will host a concert by Last Choir Standing stars The City of Bath Male Choir and The Bath Chorus – both run by Mr Jones.
During the day on Saturday a youth singing workshop led by Mike Brewer will take place at The Forum, followed by an evening concert featuring the Curtain-Up theatre group, the Bath Youth Gospel Choir and Cantilena.
On the Saturday evening one of the best youth choirs in Europe, The Rodolfus Choir, will perform in a concert at Bath Abbey with leading organist David Goode.
To finish the weekend city jazz singer Clare Teal will headline a concert at the Bath Pavilion on the Sunday evening, supported by all- girl swing group the Stockingtops.
Organiser Mr Jones said the fact that the concerts fell on the same weekend as the city's dance festival and the spring flower show would make it all the more exciting.
He said: "Bath was buzzing on that Spring Bank Holiday last year, but apart from my showcase concert there was very little else happening. This year things will be different.
"Let's make our city a lively and happy place to be between May 1 and 4."
