Music buffs can listen to my radio show on Sunday
I should like to advise music buffs that my new show, Same Roots, Different Fruits, broadcast on Somer Valley FM 97.5 each Sunday evening between 8-9pm is available online via www.somervalleyfm.co.uk and repeated.
The programme commenced on Sunday, September 9 and was my first real return to radio since retiring from broadcasting in 2002 following my disenchantment at the appalling state of musical content in this country, due largely to the dependency of computers and so-called 'programmers' who hadn't a clue about structured content and knew absolutely nothing about any form of music.
My brief with Same Roots, Different Fruits is a programme based on the rich strands of roots music and to this end I have assembled a series of shows based on a unique blend of bluegrass, Cajun, reggae, Tex-Mex, western-swing, blues, folk, ceilidh, old-time country, rockabilly, jazz and polka and emphasising the importance of local artists. The current show is an hour long but we hope to extend to two hours in due course, so I urge all local performers with CDs available to send them to me for consideration. During the first programme on September 9, I received emails and texts from as far away as East Texas and Germany. Somer Valley FM might be a small community station but it's big in attitude and serves a need. Bath GM failed hopelessly to be a truly 'local' radio station and, as for Heart FM playing 'YOUR music', well, it doesn't.
